Foreground is the bas(e)(is) for the beauty of a horizon. It is the texture prior to the moment of meeting the sky. It is in itself a moment unique to a city. In knowing a cityscape, a point of reference or origin is the beginning of an indelible image.

The intention of baSe-iS is to embrace and reinforce the natural surfaces, textures and fibers painted in Iowan landscapes; using the Des Moines skyline as its canvas. A centralized nexus of transportation and city culture, the structure is placed on axis, intended to frame views both of the Capital and downtown Des Moines, while responding to the vertical and horizontal dialogues of its location, and aid in pedestrian mobility.

baSe-iS is intended to capture the inherent qualities of the city and magnify the extraordinary moments often overlooked.
